Thanks to a great idea from Lee I was able to get 230V single phase to the South Bend lathe. All it took was finding a circuit that was on the opposite rail from the two in the garage. By wiring the two hot leads from the two 115V rails to the existing lathe switch I was able to supply it with 230V. I wasn't sure it would work, but after verifying it multiple times with the multi-meter I wired it up and voila! This is a temporary fix until I get an electrician to wire a sub-panel into the garage.
